In ordinary light, this polished Hackmanite tower displays its natural coloration and mineral patterning. Expose it to ultraviolet light, however, and Hackmanite can reveal the remarkable light-responsive behavior for which the mineral is known.

Hackmanite is a variety of sodalite famous for tenebrescence, a reversible photochromic effect in which exposure to ultraviolet light can temporarily intensify or alter its visible color. Many Hackmanite specimens can also fluoresce under UV light.

Once the UV source is removed, the fluorescent color slowly fades back to its original look, making it possible to enjoy the effect again.
