Chemical Composition: Primarily potassium aluminum silicate; traditional moonstone is associated with intergrowths of orthoclase and albite feldspar.

How Does It Form?
Moonstone forms as feldspar minerals cool and separate into extremely thin, alternating layers. When light enters the stone, it scatters between these microscopic layers.
The result is adularescence—the distinctive billowy glow for which Moonstone is famous.
Where Is It Found?
Important sources of Moonstone include Sri Lanka, India, Madagascar, Tanzania, Myanmar and Brazil.
Sri Lanka is particularly famous for producing fine, transparent to translucent Moonstone with beautiful blue adularescence, while India is known for producing a variety of colorful Moonstones.
